Eggs and paint
Mixing eggs and other materials to form different paint consistencies- Recipes from the book “Formulas for painters by Robert Massey”- paint no 14, 15, 20
Egg Tempera-
Egg Yolk - 1
Water - 1
Egg, resin, oil emulsion-
Egg Yolk - 1
Any oil or varnish – 1 (I used matte varnish)
Water - 1 or more
Egg, oil, vinegar emulsion-
Whole egg- 1
Raw linseed oil – 1 tsp
Vinegar – 4 drops
1) Experiment 1- Painting on silk
Materials used- silk, green watercolor paint+ egg/matte varnish/water emulsion, watercolor paint+ egg tempera, matte polymer medium
• Worked into wet surface
• Direct brush application
• Because of the silk and some transparency that it has, this could be good for layering on top of other works that will peak through-especially with text
Materials used- Silk, watercolor paint, watercolor paint + egg tempera, egg/matte varnish/water emulsion, egg/oil/vinegar/water emulsion, dish soap
Materials used- Silk Fabric, embroidered marks, blue acrylic ink, spots of low viscosity polymer medium
• Water was first applied to the silk to make it wet, followed by spots of low viscosity polymer medium and then drops of blue acrylic ink were added
• The ink bled into the fabric and the embroidery thread, but the areas with low viscosity polymer formed a layer on the fabric and repelled the ink

2) Experiment 2- Painting on Muslin
Materials used- muslin, green watercolor paint+ egg/matte varnish/water emulsion, watercolor paint+ egg tempera, matte polymer medium, clear gesso, dish soap
•Worked into wet surface
•Direct brush application
•The dish soap added an interesting repelling effect on the surface
Materials used- muslin scrap, ecoline ink, glue + watercolor paint mix, matte polymer medium, gold oil paint + egg/vinegar/oil/water emulsion
• Muslin soaked in water and the ink, watercolor+glue paint mix applied
• Then, using a palette knife, the gold oil paint emulsion was applied
• The matter polymer medium created a contrast in the surface and made the area lighter
• The gold oil paint and egg/vinegar/oil/water emulsion took some time to combine and kept separating but after constant mixing a thicker paint was formed.
3) Experiment 2- Painting on Raw canvas
Materials used- Raw canvas, acrylic paints, retarder medium
• This experiment was mostly done to experiment with the wet on wet technique
• The raw canvas was soaked in water, the retarder medium was mixed into the acrylic paints and painted into the wet surface with a brush
• Has a blurry effect finish
• The raw canvas soaks all the paint and medium
• Wet surface helps with easy blending
