1) Hand Stitching

Hand-Stitched Organic Pattern on Naturally-Dyed Fabric

-Fabric: Cotton, Natural Dye:Onion skins(6 medium), turmeric(2 thsp), vinegar(1tbsp) and water(3 cups)

-Stitches used: Chain stitch, Blanket stitch, and Slip stitch.

-Chain Stitch: a technique in which a series of looped stitches form a chain-like pattern. Bring the needle up at 1 and then reinsert the needle in the same hole, forming a loop.

-Blanket Stitch: Straight curved lines, borders, and finishing edges as well as appliqué. Bring the needle up at 1, down at 2, and up at 3, keeping the thread looped under the needle.

-Slip Stitch: Appliqué, quilting, and invisible folds such as hems or the edge of a waistband. Bring the needle up at 1 and through the fabric a short distance to 2. Bring the needle through the fold at 3, keep the thread hidden under the fold. Bring needle over to 4 and repeat

Materials:

-Coral reef-like pattern

-Materials: Skeins Embroidery Floss Thread, 6 strands, Polyester

-12 Strands used to stitch each type of technique.

-7 inch embroidery hoop

Hand-Stitched Geometric Pattern

-Fabric: pink organza

-Stitches used: French knot and the stem stitch.

-Front Knot: Decorative dots, filling flower centers, leaves, plants, eyes, etc. Bring the needle up at 1. Hold thread taut with the other hand and wrap the thread twice around the end of the needle. Gently pull the thread so that the wrapped threads tighten while holding it taut.

-Stem stitch: Outlining, straight and curved lines, stems for plants, stitched closely together, creating a rope-like appearance. Bring the needle up at 1 and down at 2. Bring the needle back up halfway between 1 and 2 at 3, just slightly above the first stitch.

Materials:

-Diamond-shaped pattern with circular floral shapes made with the stem stitch

-Skeins Embroidery Floss Thread, 6 strands, Polyester

-6 inch embroidery hoop -Varying strand thicknesses used between 12-2 strands

2) Block Printing

Block-Printed Full-Drop Repeat Design

-Fabric dye: Coffee (4 tbsp), salt (1 tsp), and water (3 cups)

-Fabric washed and soaked in water for 1 hour before putting in the dye bath and cooking for 35-40 mins

-Fabric: cotton

-Full-drop repeat design/block repeat/straight repeat

-Ombre color effect created by blending blue and white fabric paint

-Block carved out of soft-cut printing block

-Geometric flower pattern- 3" by 2.5"

-Block rotated every time it was placed on the fabric.

Block-Printed Brick Repeat Design

-Fabric dye: Purple cabbage(1/2 cup), Cherries(15), Beetroot(3), Vinegar(2 tbsp), water(3 cups)

-Fabric washed and soaked in water for 1 hour before putting in the dye bath and cooking for 35-40 mins

-Fabric: cotton

-Brick repeat pattern

-Two blocks created

-Block carved out of soft-cut printing block

-Cartoon character designed and carved, one with details and the other as an outline block

-Block outline placed on the fabric first and the detail block placed on top after

-Size: 3.6"x 2.5"

2) Stencil Printing

Stencil-Printed Full-Drop Repeat Design

-Fabric dye: Purple cabbage(1/2 cup), Cherries(15), Beetroot(3), Vinegar(2 tbsp), water(3 cups) Fabric washed and soaked in water for 1 hour before putting in the dye bath and cooking for 35-40 mins

-Full drop repeat pattern

-Fabric is a blend fabric. Did not take the dye as well as the cotton or other natural fabrics hence it's some type of synthetic blend

Materials used:

-Mylar sheet for the stencil

-Fabric paint mixed to create an autumnal warm color palette

-Large round hard bristle brush used to create soft paint strokes

-Tape

-The tape was laid down on the fabric and divisions were created. Then the stencil was placed on the fabric and rotated every time to create the desired effect.

Stencil-Printed Half-Drop Design

-Fabric dye: Pomegranate and raspberry tea(11 teabags), salt (1 tsp), water (3 cups) Fabric washed and soaked in water for 1 hour before putting in the dye bath and cooking for 35-40 mins

-Half drop repeat pattern

-Fabric is a blend fabric. Did not take the dye as well as the cotton or other natural fabrics hence it's some type of synthetic blend

Materials used:

-Mylar sheet for the stencil

-Fabric paint was mixed to create an autumnal warm color palette and blue was added in some parts

-Large round hard bristle brush was used to create soft paint strokes

-The stencil was placed on the fabric and long, soft motions were made with the brush as it was dragged in one direction. The process was repeated till the desired result was achieved.
